PDO Thread Lift uses absorbable threads (usually made of polydioxanone — PDO) inserted under the skin to provide support and stimulate collagen, with no cuts or surgery. There are two main types: smooth threads, recommended for delicate areas such as the eyelids, glabella, and periorbital region, with strong collagen-stimulating action; and barbed threads, which have small barbs (micro-hooks) distributed at 360°, providing traction and a more noticeable lifting effect on facial contours.

They are recommended for preventing and treating facial aging, softening wrinkles on the forehead, glabella, and perioral region, nasolabial folds, redefining the jawline, and correcting gravitational ptosis (sagging) of facial tissue.

Smooth threads are absorbed in about 3 months, but the collagen stimulation they generate lasts around 6 months. Barbed threads, on the other hand, are absorbed in about 8 months, with collagen stimulation extending for up to 1 year — which is why periodic maintenance sessions help sustain the results over time.

They are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with coagulation disorders, active infections at the application site, or uncontrolled autoimmune conditions. A personalized consultation defines the type of thread and the most suitable protocol for each case.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between smooth and barbed threads?
Smooth threads focus on collagen stimulation and are ideal for delicate areas; barbed threads have micro-hooks that pull the tissue, providing a more noticeable lifting effect in addition to collagen stimulation.
  • How long does the effect of the threads last?
Smooth threads are absorbed in about 3 months (stimulated collagen lasts around 6 months); barbed threads in about 8 months (stimulated collagen lasts up to 1 year). Periodic maintenance sessions help sustain the results.
  • Who cannot get a PDO Thread Lift?
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with coagulation disorders, active infections at the site, or uncontrolled autoimmune conditions.
